Wednesday 9th July, Italy made history as Joe Burns’ team beat Scotland to top the T20 World Cup 2026 Europe Qualifier finals. Italy, 32nd in the world, are now closer to qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Big day for Italian cricket. They beat 13th ranked Scotland and now have a chance to play in their first T20 World Cup.
Italy batted first and scored 167/7 with Emilio Gay hitting a 21 ball fifty. Scotland tried to chase but only managed 155/5. Harry Manenti took 5 wickets to help Italy win by 12 runs.
Joe Burns’ team is on top with 2 wins out of 3. They have 5 points as they beat Scotland and Guernsey. One match against Jersey was washed out.

Italy have one game left against Netherlands on 11th July at 7:30 pm. If they win they will be in the T20 tournament.
Even if Italy lose their last match they can still qualify. Scotland are 3rd with 3 points. Richard Berrington’s team need to win against Jersey big to get a better net run rate than Italy.

If Scotland don’t win big against Jersey, Italy will qualify. Netherlands have two games left and if they lose one Italy will qualify.
Italy is famous for football, 2nd most World Cup titles (4). They have had great players like Andre Pirlo, Pablo Maldini, Alexender Del Piero, Buffon. This will be the first time Italy will play in a Cricket World Cup.
It’s been 19 years since Italy won their last FIFA World Cup.
