After Bangladesh’s loss to Sri Lanka in the final Test in Colombo, Najmul Hossain Shanto resigned as Test captain. Sri Lanka won big with Prabath Jayasuriya taking 5 wickets.
On the 4th day, Bangladesh’s batting order collapsed and Jayasuriya was the main problem. Right after the game Shanto resigned, leaving a big leadership vacuum in Bangladesh.
Despite that Shanto did pretty well in the Sri Lanka Tests, scored 300 runs, 2 centuries in the 1st Test with an average of 100.

The reason of Shanto’s resignation is not known but some say he was not happy being replaced by Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain in other formats.
Reports say Shanto thought of resigning after BCB announced Miraz as the new ODI captain on June 12.
Shanto’s time as Test captain had its ups and downs. He was captain for 14 Tests after taking over in 2023. They won 4 and lost 9 including the recent one against Sri Lanka. Let’s see who will be the new captain.
