Starting from pole, the Mercedes driver controlled the race from the start and never looked under pressure. It was a special moment for Russell, who had crashed at the same venue in 2023 while chasing a podium. This time, he kept his focus to claim his second win of the year and a memorable victory for Mercedes.
Behind him, Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull despite struggling with car issues, while Lando Norris took third to give McLaren another podium finish. Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri came in fourth, helping McLaren confirm their dominance this season.
With 12 wins from 15 races, McLaren now stands as the second most successful constructor in Formula One history, only behind Ferrari. Team Principal Andrea Stella praised both drivers for their consistency and discipline, calling this championship “a reward for teamwork and dedication.

The race also brought tension between Norris and Piastri when the two made light contact early on, but both managed to complete the race strongly. After Singapore, Piastri continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship by 22 points over Norris, with Verstappen in third.
Interestingly, the weekend had started with drama during qualifying. Russell had crashed in Friday practice but bounced back to take pole position on Saturday, ahead of Verstappen and Piastri. Verstappen expressed frustration over Norris’ driving during qualifying, suggesting it affected his fastest lap but both drivers quickly moved on to focus on the race.
This year’s Singapore GP also became the first race officially designated as a “heat hazard” under new FIA rules, highlighting the extreme humidity and conditions faced by drivers.
With McLaren already crowned champions and Mercedes showing signs of revival, the final six races promise intense action as teams and drivers continue preparing for the new engine era beginning in 2026.
