Why is Sai Sudarshan not playing in the second test against England

India and England will play the second Test at Edgbaston. After the toss, India captain Shubman Gill said the team will change the lineup and Sai Sudharsan is out.

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bowl first. Gill said India made three changes to the team before the match and Sudharsan is not in the team.

Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar and Akash Deep are in while Jasprit Bumrah is out. There are two reasons for not playing Sudharsan. One, he was hurt in the first Test. Sudharsan had shoulder pain on the last day of the Headingley Test, possibly from fielding during England’s second innings.

Second reason for not playing Sudharsan could be the need of an all-rounder who can spin the ball which will be useful on the Edgbaston pitch. Sudharsan didn’t do well with the bat at Headingley, scored only 30 runs in two innings.
