Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Thursday before the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025.
Siddaramaiah felicitated Neeraj at the function to celebrate his recent javelin achievements.
Neeraj will participate in the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5. After a series of great performances, he has regained his number one spot in the world rankings for men’s javelin, ahead of Anderson Peters of Grenada.
World Athletics released the updated rankings this week and Neeraj has 1,445 points to Peters’ 1,431, according to Olympics.com. Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s Olympic champion, is fourth with 1,370 points.
Neeraj lost his top rank to Peters after the Paris Olympics where he won silver with 89.45m and Peters won bronze. He had lost his top rank in September 2024.
2025 has been good to Neeraj. He started the year with a win at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa in April, then finished second at the Doha Diamond League where he threw 90.23m for the first time.
Later that month he finished second at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland and then won at the Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike this month with best throws of 88.16m and 85.29m.
